Hey yall. I have been feeding Nature's Recipe Lamb and Rice. Which is $45 for a 40lb bag. Well we just got a Costco Membership b/c i wanted new dog beds. While we were in there i looked at the Food. It seems to be even better than what I am feeding now at nearly half the price. I just "graded" it and it got a 108 by my calculations. I was wondering if any of you use it and how it works for yall.
The food looks the same as what I am feeding now. The same color, shape, size, everything when I mixed it in with my Natures recipe to start the transition I can't tell a difference. Honestly looks like the same exact food.
Anyways I was just wondering how it works for any of you that use it. Whiskey finally got firm poo when we switch from Purina to Natures Recipe. I hope it stays firm. _________________ *Tabitha* Mom To Whiskey Drive

I tried the Kirkland food (I think Lamb maybe) and 2 out of 3 did fine on it. Dude had such bad gas and loose poop though that I switched once I was done with the bag. _________________

| I have been using Kirkland's dog food for over 3 years. Trudy and Betty do great on it but Hattie had soft stools on the chicken and rice, but does fine on lamb and rice. They all eat Lamb and Rice now. It is a very good food! I would recommend it! |

I feed Stormy and Farley the Kirkland Chicken and Rice. It gave Odie gas but Farley and Stormy love it and it doesn't give them any problems. The Lamb and Rice gave them gas though. _________________ Traci and her crew

We use the Kirklands too. Mack had loose stool with it, but he has had problems with every food we've put him on. We add 1/4 cup of beet root to his food and that seems to help a bunch.
We use the stuff in the red bag, I think that is chicken & rice, but not certain. _________________ Polly & Bob

We have used Sam's Club Lamb & Rice for about 6 years, with all our dogs and many fosters. It was rated very favorably by an independant lab. We had also tried Kirkland Lamb & Rice and it worked with most of the dogs, but a few had consistently loose stools. With the Sam's Club brand, no one has that problem and coats have all improved.
By the way, if you want a great dog bed, Costco has those big round beds with the faux sheepskin top (which all the dogs love) for only about $17.50. That is about half the price of a store like Petsmart. The Costco ones are filled plump and have the zipper to wash the covers. That is all we have now days. Caveat: Costco does not carry them year round, so get them whenever they are in stock. |

We actually like the Costco square beds better, they are egg foam and our guys have actually taken to leaving the room we are in to go to their beds. You can't usually find the beds this time of the year, usually the end of summer beginning of fall (basically between the summer seasonal stuff and getting all the xmas stuff in). _________________ Polly & Bob

I have the rectangular beds, but no egg foam...have to keep an eye out for those! The dogs love it when I go to Costco (which isn't very often) because I come home with a new bed and a big bag of pig ears! _________________

| I've been feeding my greyhounds the Kirkland Chicken & Rice for many years with great results. They love it and it seems to agree with them just fine. The backyard is easy to clean up as well. :-) |

Chicken and Rice for us is a no no! Everyone has very loose stool!!! And I mean Everyone as far as dogs go. They were on a lamb and rice by Natural Recipes so I think I am going to try the lamb and rice now.
As far as beds go. All of mine fight over the big round kirkland bed I had so I went and bought another. My only issue is the cedar inside of it. MAN does it work my allergies. All of mine are nesters so they like the big fluffy ones they can throw all over the room!
Let me add this in here. IF anyone sees a Great Dane on Craigslist or anywhere that needs a good home let me know. Holly's Husky died and I want to get her a dane. It is her dream dog!!! Thanks a bunch guys. _________________ *Tabitha* Mom To Whiskey Drive

Did you mix the new food with the old and do a slow transition? _________________ Traci and her crew

Don't know if it is "scientific" but it has always worked for us to start with about 1/4 of the new food and watch their stools the next day. A couple days like that and then I go to 1/2, the 3/4 and then 100%. The longest it has ever taken to transition has been about 7 days, and then they are fine (assuming the new food is one they will tolerate).
I have also been told and have read that lamb is generally the most digestable meat, followed by chicken, with beef actually being third. I know, you would think dogs would like and tolerate beef best, but I guess that is not the case. Just 'cause we like it doesn't mean its perfect for them. |

THis is the method I used and it is day 10 and we are still exploding! So I think I am going to try the lamb since that is what they were used to I hope it works if not I will be back on $50 dog food... _________________ *Tabitha* Mom To Whiskey Drive
